报告摘要:

We consider the system of two immiscible fluids on a thin elastic sheet, where the fluid interface intersects with the membrane at a contact line. We first study the static profiles of the interfaces by minimising the total energy of the system. Asymptotic solutions are obtained in the limits as the bending modulus of the sheet tends to infinity (stiff limit) and zero (soft limit), respectively. Then we consider the dynamical problem and derive a hydrodynamic model, particularly the boundary conditions, from generalised thermodynamics. Numerical solutions are presented for the relaxation of droplets on a membrane and transport of droplets by bendotaxis.

 

报告人介绍:

Weiqing Ren (任维清)is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained his PhD from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University in 2002. Before joining NUS, he was member of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton (2002-2003), an instructor in the Department of Mathematics at Princeton University (2003-2005), and an assistant professor at Courant Institute, New York University (2005-2011).

Professor Rens research interests are in applied mathematics and computational sciences, with focuses on rare events, multi-phase flows and multiscale numerical methods.

Professor Ren is a recipient of the Sloan Research Fellowship (2005) and the Feng Kang Prize of Scientific Computing (2015).
